CCI CVN Funded Research Wins SmartComp 2024 Best Poster Award

CCI CVN funded research led by Dr. Sherif Abdelwahed won the Best Poster Award at the 2024 IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing, or SmartComp.

The poster detailed the mechanics of CCI CVN funded testbed, OpenCyberCity.

In his own words, Dr. Abdelwahed says “this poster introduces the current design and recent developments of the OpenCyberCity. OpenCyberCity is a smart city testbed, designed to address the challenges and opportunities presented by urbanization and the rapid growth of smart city technologies. The poster shows the current testbed’s infrastructure including data analytics capabilities, and services to provide a fully-connected and functional representation of a smart city environment. The testbed’s objectives encompass multiple dimensions, including the development of a decision support system that utilizes information gathered from different smart city systems to deal with contingencies and unforeseen events and to achieve a safer and more cost-effective living environment. These new developments will provide researchers and students with a realistic platform to explore potential applications and benefits of smart city technologies. Overall, this testbed contributes to advancing knowledge and practical applications in the field of smart cities. By creating an innovative and comprehensive testbed, it enables interdisciplinary research, fosters educational opportunities, and stimulates economic growth, positioning the Commonwealth of Virginia at the forefront of smart city development.”

Congratulations to Dr. Abdelwahed and his team on their win!
