Are you ready to step into the world of cybersecurity operations? The Cyber Guardians Program is your gateway to gaining real-world experience in intrusion detection and incident response. In collaboration with the VCU Information Security Office, we’re offering an industry-focused experiential learning opportunity designed to prepare you for the front lines of cybersecurity.

Program Overview

Cyber Guardians isn’t just another academic program; it’s a direct pipeline into the real world of cybersecurity operations. Throughout the 2026–2027 academic year, you’ll gain hands-on experience working in a professional security environment, building the skills needed to detect, analyze, and respond to cyber threats.

Who Can Apply?

If you’re a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at a Virginia institution, this is your call to action! We’re looking for dedicated students majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related fields.

Eligible students include undergraduate sophomores and juniors, as well as graduate students currently enrolled in a master’s program, with at least two semesters remaining. A minimum GPA of 3.0 for undergraduate students and 3.5 for graduate students is required to ensure you’re ready for the challenges ahead.

Program Perks

Commit 10 hours per week over the course of the program and earn $20/hr while gaining valuable, hands-on experience in cybersecurity operations.

Location

Join us in Richmond, working within the Office of Technology Services at the Information Security Office at Virginia Commonwealth University. This is an in-person/hybrid experience, and participants must be able to commute weekly.
