Connor Wilson went from the movie “WarGames” to the real thing.

Wilson, the executive officer of the Army ROTC Cavalier Battalion at the University of Virginia and a fourth-year computer science student in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, is training to pursue military cybersecurity when he enters active duty.

Wilson, a Ruckersville native initially inspired by a Hollywood thriller, recently returned from the third annual Cyber Leaders Conference at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. The conference was focused on reality, not fiction.

“‘WarGames’ is a movie about some kids who essentially hack the government,” Wilson said. “Growing up seeing movies like that, hearing about things like that, I always thought it was some kind of wizardry and I have always been fascinated by that realm.”
